There is no evidence or science anywhere that high cholesterol causes Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) or Cardiovascular Disease (CVD). This myth started way back in the 1970s when Ancel Keys had a “theory” that saturated fat causes high cholesterol and cholesterol causes CHD and CVD. He was wrong, but he convinced the world he was right. There was no evidence then, and despite 40+ years of various trials, there is still no evidence it is true today.
The drug companies love the idea that cholesterol is bad – they invented Statin drugs to lower cholesterol in patients. Stain drugs do lower cholesterol however given there is no evidence that cholesterol causes CHD or CVD, why would you want to lower your cholesterol? In fact there is plenty of evidence that people over 50 years of age will live longer if they have higher cholesterol.
